About HRDI

Who We Are

The Healthcare Research & Development Initiative of Armenia — built by specialists, for specialists. Here is our story, our vision and how we work.

Background

Where We Come From

HRDI was established under the auspices of the Tuberculosis Research & Prevention Center (TBRPC) and with the support of a community of specialists committed to healthcare research and innovation. The HRDI Secretariat is hosted by and operates under the direction of the TBRPC.

The Initiative was created to address the absence of a dedicated, collaborative platform for advancing healthcare research in Armenia — one that could convene stakeholders, set standards and build capacity for the long term.

Vision

Where We Are Going

Armenia as a recognised contributor to global healthcare research and the full spectrum of health innovation — a country where world-class research capacity is seen not as a luxury but as an essential dimension of a functioning health system.

"We believe that developing Armenia's research capacity is not simply an academic ambition — it is a concrete health system investment."
Objectives

Our Strategic Objectives

Four priorities guide all of HRDI's work.

1

Promote and develop the landscape of healthcare and clinical research in Armenia.

2

Expand the sector by facilitating access to medical devices and advanced therapeutics.

3

Strengthen the organisational and personal capacity to conduct research in Armenia.

4

Advocate for evidence-based healthcare governance and policy among regulators and payers.

Methodology

How We Work

HRDI operates at three interconnected levels that together form a coherent approach to system change.

Clinical Trial Landscape Mapping

We systematically map ongoing and planned clinical trials in Armenia to understand the current pipeline, identify gaps and prioritise interventions.

Stakeholder Engagement

We convene research organisations, the Ministry of Health, professional societies, CROs, sponsors, health facilities and patient groups to align priorities and remove barriers.

Gap Analysis & Systemic Change

We benchmark Armenia against comparable countries, identify root causes of underperformance and co-design targeted, context-sensitive solutions with our partners.

Governance

Organisational Structure

Governing Board

Senior specialists elected from member organisations who set HRDI's strategic direction, approve major decisions and ensure accountability. The Board meets quarterly and oversees all major programme commitments.

Broad Membership Network

An open, dynamic membership of individuals and organisations committed to advancing healthcare research in Armenia. Membership strengthens HRDI's reach and connects the initiative with frontline practitioners and researchers.

Research & Collaboration

Our work in the field

HRDI actively engages every layer of the research ecosystem — mapping, convening, benchmarking and building capacity.

Landscape Mapping

Systematic mapping of ongoing and planned clinical trials to close pipeline gaps and improve participation rates across Armenia.

Stakeholder Engagement

Bringing together research organisations, the Ministry of Health, medical societies, CROs, sponsors and patient advocates to align on shared priorities.

Gap Analysis

Identifying and analysing barriers to a sustainable research ecosystem, proposing concrete, context-adapted improvements based on international benchmarks.

Capacity Development

Strategic training programmes to strengthen local research expertise, attract international partnerships and support evidence-based healthcare governance.

Our Partner Ecosystem HRDI works alongside a growing coalition across Armenia's healthcare landscape — NGOs, CROs, professional medical societies, individual researchers and health institution staff. Together we build research capacity and ensure that ethical, high-quality studies connect directly to patient benefit.
